MICR Toner for Printing Checks
If you print your own checks, the line of numbers along the bottom (the routing number, account number and check number) is printed in magnetic ink or toner. It's called the MICR line, for magnetic ink character recognition. The magnetic ink or toner usually contains iron oxide, which is what lets check-processing machines read the numbers.
