What Is a ComBox / Vbox?
The ComBox and Vbox are communication hubs made by Ingenico that sit between your Lane terminal and your network infrastructure. Instead of connecting multiple cables directly to the terminal, everything connects to the hub:
| Hub Port | What It Does |
| Ethernet | Connects to your network for payment processing |
| USB | Connects to PC for semi-integrated POS setups |
| Power | Accepts power supply — routes power to terminal through umbilical |
| RS232 | Serial connection for legacy POS systems |
| Additional Ports | Varies by model — may include additional USB, serial, or auxiliary connections |
The umbilical cable carries ALL of these signals through a single cable to the terminal. One cable to the counter instead of many.

One cable to the terminal. Everything else connects to the ComBox/Vbox. This keeps your counter clean and makes terminal swaps easy, disconnect one cable and plug in a replacement terminal.
⚠️ Important: You Need a ComBox or Vbox to Use This Cable
This cable connects your Lane terminal TO a ComBox or Vbox hub. Without one of those hubs, this cable has no purpose.
- Have a ComBox/Vbox? → This cable is what you need
- Don't have a ComBox/Vbox? → You need a direct connection cable instead:
- Powered USB Cable — for direct PC connection
- Ethernet Cable — for direct network connection
- Need the ComBox too? → The ComBox Kit includes the umbilical cable — better value if you need both
What's Included:
- 1x Ingenico Umbilical Cable — 2 meter (Part# 296141785AD)
- ComBox/Vbox NOT included
- Power supply NOT included — order power supply separately
When You Need This Cable:
- Original umbilical cable is damaged, frayed, or has bent pins
- Terminal randomly disconnects, loses power, or reboots (common sign of worn umbilical)
- Intermittent "Communication Error" or "No Connection" messages
- Terminal works only when cable is held at a certain angle
- Setting up a new Lane 5000/7000/8000 with existing ComBox/Vbox
- Purchased used/refurbished terminal without the umbilical
- Need a spare for quick swap during business hours
Lane 3000 vs Lane 3600 vs Lane 5000/7000/8000 Umbilical Cables:
| Terminal | Umbilical Part# | Link |
| Lane 3000: | 296141785AC | Compatible |
| Lane 3600: | Different part# | Lane 3600 Umbilical Cable |
| Lane 5000 / 7000 / 8000: | 296141785AD | This product ✅ |
⚠️ Note: The Lane 3000 part number (296141785AC) is very similar to this cable (296141785AD) — only the last two characters differ (AC vs AD). They are interchangeable.
Installation:
- Power off the Lane terminal and disconnect the ComBox/Vbox power supply
- Disconnect old umbilical cable from both terminal and hub
- Inspect new cable connectors for any shipping damage
- Connect one end to the ComBox/Vbox umbilical port
- Connect other end to the bottom of the Lane terminal — push firmly until it seats securely
- Reconnect power supply to the ComBox/Vbox
- Terminal should power on automatically through the umbilical
- Verify network connectivity and run a test transaction
Troubleshooting After Installation:
- Terminal won't power on: Verify the power supply is connected to the ComBox/Vbox — power routes through the hub, not directly to the terminal. Need a power supply?
- Intermittent connection: Ensure both connectors are fully seated — push firmly on both ends
- No network: Check that your Ethernet cable is connected to the ComBox/Vbox, not to the terminal directly
- "Communication Error" persists: Try swapping the Ethernet or USB cable on the ComBox/Vbox — the issue may not be the umbilical

Cable I needed for my Lane 5000
I had a great experience purchasing a cable from TerminalDepot. Initially unsure of the exact cable I needed, I already had the wrong one in my cart, but I decided to call them first, and I'm glad I did. The representative I spoke with was knowledgeable and quickly identified the right cable based on my equipment. I opted for express shipping and received the cable the next day. It was the perfect fit and has been working flawlessly for the past month. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the product and the excellent customer service.
