▶ What Is an Umbilical Cable?
The umbilical cable is the single cable that connects your Ingenico Lane 3000 payment terminal to a ComBox or Vbox interface hub. Instead of running separate Ethernet, USB, serial, and power cables directly to the terminal on the counter, all of those connections are consolidated into the ComBox or Vbox hub. The hub sits under the counter or in the back of house. This umbilical cable then runs from the hub up to the terminal, carrying everything through one clean connection.
A typical installation looks like this:
- POS system, Ethernet, and power connect to the ComBox or Vbox hub (mounted under the counter or at the back of house)
- This umbilical cable runs from the hub up to the counter where the terminal sits
- Lane 3000 terminal sits on the counter connected by this single cable
The result is a clean counter installation with only one cable visible at the terminal instead of multiple cables running to different ports.
▶ When Do You Need This Cable?
- New ComBox or Vbox installation. The umbilical cable is required to connect your Lane 3000 to the hub. Without it, the terminal cannot receive power or communicate through the hub
- Replacing a damaged cable. If your terminal has intermittent connectivity, drops transactions mid-payment, loses network connection randomly, or won't power on through the hub, the umbilical cable may be damaged and needs replacement
- Terminal upgrade. If you are replacing your Lane 3000 terminal but keeping the same ComBox or Vbox hub, you may need a fresh umbilical cable for the new terminal
- Adding a second terminal station. Each terminal connected to a ComBox or Vbox requires its own umbilical cable
- Spare on hand. If your business cannot afford downtime from a bad cable, keeping a spare umbilical cable in the drawer means a quick swap instead of waiting for a replacement to ship
▶ Part Number 296141785AD vs 296141785AC
You may see either part number 296141785AD or 296141785AC on your existing cable or in documentation from your payment processor. These are different revisions of the same cable. They are fully interchangeable and function identically. If your current cable is labeled 296141785AC, this 296141785AD cable is the correct replacement. If your documentation references 296141785AD, this is the exact cable specified.
▶ Compatibility
Compatible Terminals

- ✅ Ingenico Lane 3600
- ✅ Ingenico Lane 5000
- ✅ Ingenico Lane 7000
- ✅ Ingenico Lane 8000
Compatible Hubs

- ❌ Direct-to-POS connections. This cable is specifically for ComBox or Vbox hub setups. If you are connecting your Lane 3000 directly to a POS system or network without a hub, you need a different cable such as the Ingenico Lane Ethernet Cable (296114829AD) or USB cable
▶ Lane 3000 End of Life Notice
Ingenico has announced the Lane 3000 as end of life. While the terminal itself is no longer manufactured, businesses still actively using the Lane 3000 need replacement cables and accessories to keep their existing equipment operational. This OEM umbilical cable keeps your Lane 3000 running until you are ready to upgrade to a newer terminal. If your Lane 3000 is still processing payments reliably, replacing a worn cable is far more cost-effective than upgrading your entire payment setup before you need to.
▶ Breakaway Cable Extension
If you need additional length or a quick-disconnect point between the hub and the terminal, the Ingenico Lane Breakaway Cable is a 44-inch extension that pairs with this umbilical cable. The breakaway cable adds a magnetic disconnect point so the terminal can be detached quickly without pulling on the umbilical cable or damaging the connectors. This is useful in environments where the terminal needs to be handed to customers or moved frequently.
▶ What's Included
In the box:
- ✅ 1x Ingenico Umbilical Cable, 6ft (296141785AD)
NOT included (sold separately):
- ⚠️ ComBox or Vbox hub. Use your existing hub or purchase separately. The ComBox Kit (296148891AD) includes a hub, power supply, and cables
- ⚠️ Lane 3000 terminal. This is a replacement cable only
- ⚠️ Breakaway cable. The 44-inch breakaway extension is sold separately
- ⚠️ Ethernet, USB, serial, and power cables that connect to the ComBox or Vbox hub from your POS system and network. Those cables run from your infrastructure to the hub and are separate from this umbilical cable
▶ Troubleshooting
- Terminal won't power on through the hub? Check that the umbilical cable is fully seated at both ends. Disconnect and firmly reconnect both the terminal end and the hub end. If the terminal still won't power on, verify that the ComBox or Vbox itself is receiving power from its own power supply
- Intermittent connection or dropped transactions? A loose or damaged umbilical cable is the most common cause. Inspect the cable for visible damage, kinks, crushed sections, or bent pins at either connector. Try reseating both ends. If the problem persists, replace the cable
- Terminal works when plugged in directly but not through the hub? This confirms the issue is between the terminal and the hub. Either the umbilical cable is faulty or the hub port is damaged. Try a new umbilical cable first since it is the cheaper and more common fix
- Network connection drops randomly? If the terminal loses Ethernet connectivity intermittently, the umbilical cable may have internal wire damage even if the outer jacket looks fine. Cables that are stepped on, pinched by furniture, or pulled at an angle develop internal breaks over time. Replace the cable to rule it out
- New installation not working? Confirm you are connecting to a ComBox or Vbox hub. This cable does not connect directly to a POS system, router, or computer. If you do not have a ComBox or Vbox, you need a different cable such as the Ingenico Lane Ethernet Cable (296114829AD) for a direct network connection
▶ Why Use OEM Cables?
The umbilical cable carries power, data, and communication signals simultaneously. Third-party or generic cables may have incorrect pin configurations, lower quality shielding, or connectors that do not seat properly in the Lane 3000 or ComBox/Vbox ports. Common issues with non-OEM umbilical cables include:
- Intermittent connectivity that is difficult to diagnose because the cable looks physically correct
- Insufficient power delivery causing the terminal to reboot during transactions or fail to charge
- Poor shielding causing data errors, especially in environments with electrical interference from kitchen equipment, refrigeration, or other electronics
- Connectors that loosen over time because the tolerances are not matched to the Ingenico ports
OEM part 296141785AD is manufactured to Ingenico's specifications with proper pin alignment, shielding, and connector fit. It is the same cable included in the Ingenico ComBox Kit.
