▶ What This Part Is and When You Need It

The stylus holster is the black plastic cradle on the side of the M400 that holds the signature stylus between transactions. It clips onto the terminal housing and gives the tethered stylus a home so it is not swinging free. PPL445-008-01-A is VeriFone's replacement for that holster. You need one when:

• The holster is cracked and the stylus no longer stays put.

• The holster snapped off the terminal and the stylus is hanging by its tether.

• A terminal came back from another location with the holster missing.

• You are refurbishing M400 units and want them to look and work like new before redeploying them.

▶ How to Install

Per the VeriFone M4xx Holster/Stylus Connection quick installation guide:

1. Feed the stylus tether tab up through the slot in the top of the holster.

2. Fold the tab down so it seats flat inside the holster and the tether runs out through the slot.

3. Slide the holster onto the side rail of the M400.

4. Push until it clicks into place.

No tools are needed and nothing on the terminal is removed or opened.

▶ Troubleshooting

• Holster will not seat: check that the tether tab is folded flat inside the holster before sliding it onto the terminal. A tab left standing will stop the holster short.

• Stylus feels loose in the holster: confirm the stylus is the M400 stylus, STY445-001-01-A. Styluses from other VeriFone models are a different diameter and will not sit snugly.

• Holster will not click: make sure the old holster's broken remains are fully cleared from the terminal's side rail first, then slide it on again and push until it clicks.

The holster has to match the M400 housing exactly to clip on and stay on. VeriFone's part is molded to the terminal, so the clip tension, the tether path, and the stylus angle are the ones the M400 was designed around.
