Ingenico Desk 3500 / Desk 5000 Magic Box Cable | OEM Coiled Connector

OEM Ingenico coiled cable that connects the Desk 3500 or Desk 5000 terminal to the Magic Box base station. Part number 296165425AB. The coiled design extends up to 3 feet and retracts to keep your counter clean and organized. This single cable carries power, data, and connectivity between your terminal and the Magic Box.

Without this cable, your Desk 3500 or Desk 5000 terminal cannot communicate with the Magic Box. If your existing cable is damaged, frayed, or intermittently disconnecting, this is the replacement you need. Genuine OEM Ingenico. Not an aftermarket knockoff.

▶ What Is the Ingenico Magic Box

The Magic Box is a docking base station for the Ingenico Desk 3500 and Desk 5000 payment terminals. It sits on your counter and the terminal connects to it via this coiled cable. The Magic Box provides all external connectivity for the terminal through a single hub:

Power delivery (8V, 4A) to the terminal.

Ethernet port for network/IP connectivity.

Dial/phone line port (PSTN) for dial-up processing.

RS232 serial ports (2x) for peripheral devices like cash drawers or printers.

Instead of plugging multiple cables directly into the terminal, everything routes through the Magic Box. The coiled cable is the single connection between your terminal and all of these services. If this cable fails, the terminal loses power and all connectivity.

▶ When to Replace Your Magic Box Cable

Terminal intermittently loses power or reboots while connected to the Magic Box.

Terminal displays network errors or "Initializing Host IP" messages despite working Ethernet on the Magic Box.

Visible damage: frayed coil, cracked insulation, bent or corroded connector pins.

Cable no longer clicks securely into the terminal or Magic Box port.

Terminal works fine with a direct USB cable to PC but fails when connected through the Magic Box.

Coiled cable is stretched out and no longer retracts (stress damage from pulling too far).

The Magic Box cable carries both power and data. A partially damaged cable can cause intermittent connectivity issues that are difficult to diagnose. If you suspect the cable, replacing it is the fastest and cheapest troubleshooting step before replacing the Magic Box unit itself.

▶ Installation

1. Disconnect the old cable from the terminal by pressing the release tabs and pulling straight out.

2. Disconnect the other end from the Magic Box.

3. Connect the new cable to the Magic Box port first. Push until it clicks.

4. Connect the terminal end into the bottom of the Desk 3500 or Desk 5000. Push until it clicks.

5. The terminal should power on and establish network connectivity automatically.

6. Run a test transaction to confirm data and payment processing are working.

The cable should be readily accessible after installation for maintenance and helpdesk diagnosis. Avoid routing it in a way that puts tension on the coil when the terminal is in its resting position.

▶ Magic Box Cable vs Direct USB Cable

The Desk 3500 and Desk 5000 can connect to a POS system in two ways:

Magic Box setup (this cable): Terminal connects to the Magic Box via the coiled cable. The Magic Box handles power delivery, Ethernet, dial, and serial connections. This is the standard deployment for most retail and restaurant environments. The Magic Box sits on or under the counter and acts as the central hub.

Direct USB setup (separate cable): Terminal connects directly to a PC or POS system via a right-angle USB cable (part 296171895AB, sold separately). No Magic Box involved. Power comes from a separate adapter. This setup is used when the terminal integrates directly with POS software over USB.

If your current setup uses a Magic Box, you need THIS cable. If your terminal connects directly to a computer via USB, you need the right-angle USB cable instead.

▶ Why Buy OEM

Aftermarket and refurbished Magic Box cables from overseas sellers often have connector pins that do not seat properly, coils that lose tension quickly, and shielding that degrades over time. A poorly shielded cable can cause data transmission errors during payment processing, leading to declined transactions and network timeouts.

At $51.99 for a genuine OEM cable vs potential transaction failures, technician callbacks, and terminal downtime from a cheap cable, the OEM part pays for itself on the first avoided service call. Every cable ships new and unused from our US warehouse with same-day shipping.

▶ Troubleshooting

Terminal does not power on when connected to Magic Box: Verify the Magic Box itself is receiving power (check the power supply connection to the Magic Box). Try disconnecting and reconnecting both ends of the coiled cable firmly. If the Magic Box power LED is on but the terminal does not power up, the cable may be faulty.

"Initializing Host IP" or network errors: This often indicates a connectivity issue between the terminal and the Magic Box Ethernet port. Reseat both ends of the coiled cable. Check that the Ethernet cable is plugged into the Magic Box (not the terminal directly). If the error persists with a new cable, the Magic Box Ethernet port or the Ethernet cable may be the issue.

Intermittent disconnections: Check for a stretched or damaged coil. If the cable has been pulled beyond its natural extension repeatedly, the internal wires may be stressed. Replace the cable. Also check that the connectors are not loose or corroded.

Terminal works on USB but not through Magic Box: This confirms the terminal itself is functional. The issue is between the terminal and the Magic Box. Replace the coiled cable first (cheapest part). If the problem persists with a new cable, the Magic Box unit may need replacement.
