▶ How to Load Paper (4 Simple Steps)
- Open the paper cover by pulling the release lever.
- Remove any old roll and place the new roll so paper feeds from underneath.
- Pull 3–4 inches of paper past the auto-cutter.
- Close the cover firmly and send a test print from your Square Kitchen Display.
Tip: If prints come out blank, check that the Star RC-700B ink ribbon is installed. If prints are faded, replace the ribbon, the paper is not the issue.
▶ Need Duplicate Copies? Compare Bond vs Carbonless Paper
The Square Kitchen Printer supports three paper types:

▶ Troubleshooting — Blank or Faded Prints
⚠️ Important: The Square Kitchen Printer (Star SP742ME) is an impact/dot matrix printer. It requires bond or carbonless paper AND a Star RC-700B ink ribbon.
- Blank prints? Check that a Star RC-700B ink ribbon is installed. Thermal paper will also feed through blank, make sure you're using bond paper.
- Faded prints? Replace the Star RC-700B ribbon. The paper does not affect print darkness, only the ribbon condition does.
- Paper jams? Make sure the roll is seated properly with paper feeding from underneath.
The Square Kitchen Printer does NOT use thermal paper. Thermal paper (shiny/slippery) is for thermal printers like the Star TSP143. Do not interchange them.
▶ About Our American Made Bond Paper
Every roll is manufactured in the USA to strict quality standards. Our 165-foot rolls are 10% longer than the industry-standard 150-foot rolls, that's 750 extra feet per 50-roll case.
Our lint-free bond paper protects your printer's impact head from fiber buildup that causes faded text, streaks, and premature wear. The red end-of-roll warning stripe alerts you before running out mid-service.
